Richard D. “Dick” Lindgren was the first son of Hazel and Gilmore Lindgren. Born in Lanyon, IA (1931), “Dick” was the first grandson of Frank and Amy Lindgren. A graduate of the University of Iowa Medical School, he practiced radiology in Madison Wisconsin for many years. A lifelong student, in retirement, Dick studied to become a CPA.
Dick married Ardeth and together they raised four children: Laura. Eric, Mark and Amy. He is now a proud grandfather and great grandfather. Ardeth and Dick were committed to education and all of their children are college graduates.
Dick has contributed to understanding of many of the Lindgren Connections around Lanyon where he an his brothers; Ted, Carl and Jon all grew up and attended the Lanyon Consolidated School. All four of the sons of Gilmore and Hazel held doctorates. Asked to describe his uncles, Jay Lindgren, son of Carl, said, “I always said they were; doctor, doctor-doctor, doctor and doctor.
Dick held a lifelong interest in almost anything mechanical. He was a collector of the rear-engine Chevrolet, the Corvair. This model was championed at General Motors by Ardeth’s uncle, an engineer and executive manager.
Ardeth was an accomplished musician (voice and piano) who guided her children in music. Oldest daughter Laura Gardner (pictured above with her proud parents) completed a music major and has been active in teaching music at a Christian school in Ames, Iowa. Eric, who also followed his father as a radiologist, continues his interest in music. Along with his wife, Dora, children are musically talented.
What follows is a few of the contributions Dick has made to our Lindgren Family History and Connections.
Dick celebrated his 90th birthday in June, 2021 with a grand party at Raspberry Inn in Ames, IA that was organized by his daughter Laura.
