Scouting

The Boy Scouts of America has played an important role in the teen-age development of many family members. The table below lists those we have identified who have achieved the BSA’s highest award, becoming Eagle Scouts. Since Scouting began in 1911, only 4% of participants have achieved this rank. Eagle Scouts are, in addition to earning requisite merit badges, also expected to serve their Troop in a leadership capacity. In the Second World War it was said that Eagle Scouts went into one line and all other draftees went into another line. However, apocryphal this story may be, it recognizes the high esteem in which Eagle Scouts are regarded. Among US Presidents, Gerald R. Ford, was an Eagle Scout. Many other individuals of high life achievement have participated in the Scouting program.

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
