Our great, great grandmother, Johanna Johnson (Amy Johnson Lindgren’s mother) read a Swedish devotional book in the late 1800s by P.P. Waldenstrom called “God is Good.” The written account of this is in a Covenant history book authored by former Lanyon pastor, Carl Backstrom. Pastor Backstrom wrote about Johanna reading this book, and then walking 13 miles on foot over the prairie from her farmstead to Swede Bend Church in Dayton to worship. I found the book a few years ago, and was pleasantly surprised to see the entire title of this book was “God is Good: Reflections on David’s 25th Psalm” (my English translation). How amazing to know that the deeper meanings of Psalm 25 had moved and influenced Johanna to go to great lengths to worship and fellowship with other Christians at the very first pioneer Covenant church, Swede Bend.
